| Mr. O'Keefe focuses his
practice on foreign and domestic patent prosecution;
patent portfolio management; patent, software, and technology
licensing; competitive evaluations; product clearance;
opinions of counsel for patent validity and infringement;
and due diligence investigations. The technologies in
which Mr. O'Keefe provides counsel include fuels and
lubricants, medical devices, oil and gas, nanotechnology,
catalysis, polymers, basic and specialty chemicals,
and chemical processes.
Mr. O'Keefe has a diverse legal background, including
experience in Intellectual Property litigation and as
in-house counsel. His practice has involved a variety
of technologies and he has represented clients ranging
in size from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
Mr. O’Keefe has extensive experience with domestic
and foreign patent application preparation and prosecution,
including reexamination, reissue, and foreign opposition
proceedings. Likewise, he has provided counsel for patent
portfolio management. He has drafted and negotiated
Intellectual Property related agreements such as patent
and technology licenses in a variety of technical fields.
Mr. O’Keefe has provided product clearance assessments
and opinions of counsel for patent infringement and
validity. He has also performed due diligence investigations
for acquisitions and licensing activities involving
patent and technology rights
Prior to helping to establish O'Keefe, Egan, Peterman & Enders,
Mr. O'Keefe was an associate at Arnold, White &
Durkee from 1994-1996. During his tenure with AWD, Mr.
O'Keefe was primarily involved with litigation matters.
In addition, he prepared and filed patent applications,
and rendered opinions of counsel.
From 1990 to 1994, Mr. O'Keefe was an in-house patent
counsel for The Dow Chemical Company. In this capacity,
he was directly responsible for several business groups.
Mr. O'Keefe managed extensive patent portfolios; provided
counsel with respect to patent validity and infringement;
evaluated third party patents for existing and potential
new businesses; prosecuted domestic and foreign patents;
and engaged in complex patent and know-how licensing
negotiations.
Mr. O'Keefe is past president of the Austin Intellectual
Property Law Association and the Saginaw Valley Patent
Law Association in Michigan.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. O'Keefe
was a graduate student of organic chemistry from 1985-1987
at Indiana University.
